This paperback edition is the most recent update (2018/19) of this classic book on Port and the wines of the Douro region. Though many people discount port as a secondary after-dinner drink, this book celebrates, and describes the incredible work that goes into making some of the most profound, and by far the most age-worthy wines in the world. It is clearly written, and organized to give readers a great feel for the history, the styles, and the people behind the port wine industry. There are useful guides to the best producers for the most celebrated "Vintage" years, which now include the 2016 and 17s. If you're thinking of going to Portugal and learning about the wine in the Duoro, this is an excellent book. I found it to be well written and very interesting. This book goes more into detail on the way the planting and grafting of the grapes is done than I needed but that is a personal preference. That part might have been more useful to me if I'd been in the Duoro Valley during the Spring or Summer while the grapes are actually growing so I knew what I was looking at. I did find the explanation of the different kinds of grapes and the history of wine production to be excellent - very readable, thorough, and well explained as I am a layman. I would advise making sure you get the latest edition as the reviews of the wines will change.
